Happy Valentine's Day!

(( Friday, February 14, 2003 // 08: 27 PM ))

I had a little change of pace today. Instead of caring for cats and dogs, I moved up to real live human babies! That's right, today I baby-sat! It was lots of fun.

Victor was my companion for the day. He is my friend, Beth's, sweet little boy. I met them both at JournalCon last October, which was awesome. You know, I have made so many cool friends because of the internet!

Today went rather well, I must say. As far as babies go, Vic is really laid back and cool. He fussed here and there, but even his loudest cry of the day wasn't very loud at all.

Vic spent time rearranging my hair today. By the time I caught my new 'do in the mirror, I'd forgotten he had been playing with it, and I had to laugh at how different it looked from when I left my house this morning! He is so funny.

I love how sliding feet over wooden blocks can be such a joyous thing for a 9 month old. It's so great! We should all learn to enjoy life's simple pleasures that much.

Animal Planet's "Emergency Vet" show was on t.v. this afternoon while Vic and I played downstairs. The animal experiences are almost always either touching or downright sad. So either way, I get teary-eyed watching that show. But having Vic right next to me rocked, because every time I looked away from the t.v., he was beaming at me with that cute little baby-teeth smile! And then I couldn't help smiling right back at him. It was awesome!

When I took him out to pick up some Pad Thai (for me, not him), people really liked him. He even got a compliment from one couple who thought he was my baby! Must be the red hair!

So, lunch was an adventure! I let him feed himself (which he really does seem to enjoy) while I ate my Pad Thai. This was the result:

Clean-up was another adventure altogether!

Also funny were the sweet cats in the household. One cat insisted on rolling around on my lap while Vic was playing with his toys. It was really quite comical!

Victor even took a nap eventually, which was really nice. I read a little bit of my book, and tried not to turn the pages too loudly! Then Beth came home and it was really nice to visit with her for a while. She gave me a rose for Valentine's Day, which I thought was incredibly sweet!

The three of us went out and walked on Telegraph for a while, a busy and happenin' part of Berkeley. We even got cookies! I liked looking at all the cafes and cool stores. I ought to go to Berkeley more often. There's a bunch of cool stuff I've only seen from the street. It'd be fun to explore those places more, I think.

So, all in all, it was a really cool day! Not your typical Valentine's Day, but that's okay. I still got a rose and some chocolate (Mrs. Field's double fudge chocolate chip cookies? highly recommended by yours truly!), so I'm not complaining!

Joe and I aren't really huge on this holiday. We both agree it's important to be romantic and loving to each other every day, so it just isn't a big deal to us, really. It's nice to go out for dinner, or something cool like that, though, so we'll probably hit a nice Italian restaurant sometime over the weekend. That'll be fun!

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!
