My "Eventful" Weekend

(( Monday, April 14, 2003 // 02: 01 AM ))

I should more than likely be in bed at the current moment, but I slept away a good part of the day, and now I'm wide awake! Okay, not wide awake, per se, but too awake to get any sleep. Plus, I've seen this episode of Cheers approximately 42,000 times. So, here I am!

I've been meaning to write for a good long time. It's the same old story. Lots of stuff happens, and then the idea of sitting and writing it all seems overwhelming. So I put it off until the next day, and then more stuff happens, blah blah. I've really got a get better at the whole "self discipline" thing, I think.

I guess I'll start with the most recent stuff and then work backwards and see where I end up!

Well, Friday I got a horrid headache, so I took a nap. I slept for three hours straight and woke up when Joe came home. I was snacking on some jarred peaches, but something didn't feel quite right. In fact, things felt quite wrong. I put my peaches down. I couldn't stand another bite. And you especially know something's up with me when I don't want food!

Sure enough, I started puking shortly thereafter. I'll spare you most of the icky details. Let's just say hourly trips to the bathroom and much intestinal distress ensued. About 12 hours later, I was wiped out. It was a decent hour of the morning, so Joe called his mom, who was immediately convinced I had SARS, and said we should call my dad. So I called Dad to seek his professional opinion (he's a neurologist, and knows about all sorts of medical stuff), but his cell phone didn't pick up. So I called my mom, who reassured me I'd be fine and that all I had to do was wait it out. I felt better just talking to her. Sure enough, after we hung up, I slept a full 2 and a half hours -- so awesome! I'd gotten about half of that up until that point. When I woke up, I ate a saltine. A few hours later, I had another one. And I've been slowly recovering since then. My stomach is still feeling delicate. I had two pieces of toast (one dry, one drizzled with honey) and a cup of applesauce for dinner tonight. I'm a wild woman, I tell ya!

So far, my dear husband seems to be safe. We've been steering clear of each other (except for all the times he gets me water, toast, or anything else I need... he's so cool!), in hopes of keeping him well. He had a flu recently, followed by a cold. I somehow managed to miss those two, but grabbed this stomach thing instead. Crazy! Anyway, he's got to keep himself in good health, because he's going on a business trip tomorrow, and if there's anything worse than being sick, it's being sick while travelling.

Basically, we just need a lot of healthy vibes in our little home! But really, things do seem to be looking up. Like I always say, the return to the internet is the first sign of recovery!

As I type, I realize I'm not quite out of the woods. I'm still feeling rather weak, actually. More stories are soon to follow, but for now, I think I'll seek refuge on the couch, my comfy safe haven for the past several days. Maybe I'll be able to get a few hours of sleep. That'd be nice. Plus the first episode of Cheers is now on Nick at Nite, and though I've seen that one about 42,000 times as well, I'd gladly watch it again.

You got the same bug Vic and Beth and I had...

that is one incredibly virulent dastardly bug.

at least you got the 'good' version.. like mine.. 12 hours of puking..

Awww, poor Beth. 24 hours of puking. Goodness gracious! Yeah, I was surprised I got it, considering you said none of you had shown symptoms for quite a while. What a horrible bug! At least the worst is over now. :)

Wahh! I'm so sorry Meg! Seriously though, we'd all been symptom-free for about a week before you baby-sat for Vic!

I would never have thought we were still contagious.

I'm going to clean the entire house with Clorox this week though just in case it's lingering around somewhere that I missed after cleaning up before.

I hope you feel better!

It's okay, Beth! I'm feeling a lot better now! I know what you mean. I knew it had been at least a week, so I didn't think you guys could possibly be contagious either! Apparently, that bug sticks around!! I'm still going to be careful when Joe gets home on Thursday (i.e., will not be kissing him hello!), and in the mean time, I'll be bleaching stuff here too. And hey, no worries. I feel a lot better! (((lots of contagion-free hugs to all of you!!))) :-)

Awww... My poor Meggie! I'm glad you're feeling better. Hugging the toilet is NOT a fun a way to spend your time. ;)

No, no, it is not. It's much more fun to hug soft, warm things like Joe or my kitties! :) hee-hee! Thanks, Reenie!
