Aftermath

(( Thursday, June 26, 2003 // 02: 55 PM ))

So, uh, would anyone care to explain to me how it's already Thursday? Anyone? Seriously, I feel like the car accident happened yesterday. Instead, tomorrow is one week since the wreck, and four weeks to the day since I cut my thumb tip off. Crazy. Someone recently said, "Maybe you should just stay home on Fridays?" Heh. Good idea!

So, let's see. My poor car was towed over to the auto body place where a very nice worker guy ("Loel") is taking care of him. Actually, Loel is probably ripping off pieces of poor Bond (my car) and poking and prodding him with sharp objects. But I feel better if I just think he's taking good care of him.

Loel called me Tuesday with his pseudo-estimate. "I won't know exactly how much it'll be until I can tell what the damage is on the inside. I just need your authorization to take the front end of your car apart."

Jiminy Christmas.

I gave the go-ahead and got another phone call today. "Hi, it's Loel from Random Car Repair Place. I just wanted to let you know that I came up with an estimate for your car for almost [insert exorbitant amount of money here]. I sent the estimate to your insurance company and now I'm just waiting to hear from them. If you have any questions, call me."

Dude. My car is worth that much! So. It doesn't look good. I called my dad, since he's technically the owner of the car and the insurance people may call him before they call me. He didn't think it sounded good, either. "We'll just have to wait and see," he said.

And that's how it stands for now.

As for my thumb, it's actually healing quite nicely. The day the scabs came off was one of great joy for me. (Why yes, I am a total freak, thanks for noticing.) It's weird, because while it looks like I could just take the band-aids off, it feels so weird and sensitive that I can't stand to have them off for long. My thumb stings under running water (running water! I can actually wash my thumb with real soap and water now!), and even when it's bandaged, it gets sore if I use it a lot (as opposed to performing every action with my thumb sticking out, like I have been). But it feels a lot better than it did, and like I said, it's coming along nicely. Every day, it looks more and more like my regular ol' thumb, and soon I'll be all back to normal. Except that my hands and arms are tanning and my thumb is not. Which just looks kind of funny. And has an added touch of amusement for me, because last summer was the first summer in my life that I have ever tanned instead of burned, and now my body is continuing with that trend. Kind of exciting for a fair little redhead like me!
