American Idols! LIVE!
(( Monday, September 1, 2003 // 03: 23 AM ))
Here it is. The entry you've been waiting for. The entry in which, it is revealed once and for all, that our fearless protagonist is, in fact, a giant nerd. I know you must be shocked. Shocked! But please, be brave. For the sake of the children...
Joe and I went to the American Idols Live! Concert last night. Oh, yes. Yes, we did! We are big fans of the show (and many other reality t.v. programs). We watched every single episode of the second season together. In fact, one time (in Band Camp), I was in Washington visiting my mom, and Joe timed TiVo just right so that while we talked on the phone, we were watching the same moments of the show at the exact same time! And then I voted from my mom's house. I voted for Ruben every single week, because he kicks so much ass and was the best singer on the show! And then he WON, and I was so very, very happy!
So we bought tickets for the concert tour and drove on down to San Jose to see them perform! It was totally packed, which was kind of surprising. The audience was made up mostly of ten year old girls ("Oh my god! It's CLAY! I love you, Clay!"), parents of ten year old girls, and fifteen year old hottie girls who danced like they were going to rip their clothes off at any minute. I still think that would have been awesome.
We were also in the kind of crowd who goes cuckoo for cocoa puffs when promos pop up on the very big screens during intermission advertising the Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera album. Much, much screaming. The screaming stopped instantly when Jennifer Lopez's album was advertised. I laughed.
And then there was Joe and me. We are not ten years old, nor are we hottie teenagers seconds away from streaking down the center aisle, but we still had fun! I was genuinely excited to see Ruben, Clay, and Kimberley Locke sing in person. I may or may not have screamed and waved, a little. I definitely did say, "Ruuuuuuuben!" along with the crowd when Ruben made his first stage appearance. I couldn't help making fun of Carmen, who is now only slightly less annoying than she was on the show. I think someone must have told her to stop slapping her hip so much, because she only did it once. Oh, and Joe and I are convinced Julia DeMato got a boob job. Bouncy!
The combo numbers with everyone singing were much better than the solo performances. The dancers were crazy, moving in ways that looked either impossible, painful, or both. One girl kicked so hard, her knee could have broken her own nose. How did she do that? She must be a robot.
We had awesome seats, too!! We were on the floor in the seventeenth row from the stage. I was in seat 3. Three is my lucky number. This was not planned. Fate? *swoon* Heh. Just kidding!
I kinda sorta danced along with some of the songs (as much as I could in the 12" square space I had to do so). At least, it's as close to dancing as I'll ever get. It's really nothing more than my white girl, rhythm-less moves. I am a dork. Also, I bought a tee shirt before we left! It's white with blue and red stars, and has all the pictures of the Final Ten American Idols on it. Except Josh Gracin's, because he wasn't in the concert. He's already back overseas doing Marine stuff. Just as well. I can't stand that guy. He may be a fine Marine, but damn it, the man cannot sing!
Best poster of the evening was definitely the one with Strongbad which read, "Holy Crap! It's Clay!" Awesome.
And, I sadly have no pictures, because I forgot my digital camera. Yes, again. I don't know what's wrong with me.
All in all, it was great! I'm so happy we went! Lots of fun. Very exciting to see people I've watched all season actually performing in person. It was lots and lots of fun, and afterwards, we picked up burgers from In and Out on the way home. What an awesome date!
