Pajama Day!

(( Sunday, January 4, 2004 // 02: 33 PM ))

Sunday, Laura wasn't feeling super great, and I felt like I was on the verge of a cold. So after we made a quick trip to the grocery store, we decided to spend the whole day in our pajamas in my room!

Laura's number one thing she wanted to do in London was see the Peter Pan statue, and mine was going to the London Zoo. We both felt like if we'd had to go home that day, that we'd had an excellent vacation and wouldn't regret a thing. So we had no qualms about staying indoors all day.

However, at one point, we'd been talking about animals and our pets so much that I got the crazy notion to go to a pet shop. Kat and Lily had said there was on in Harrod's (even though I'd also heard from Mom's friend that Harrod's is a waste of time). But hey, for the animals, it might be worth it, right? So I asked Laura, "Want to go hold puppies??" She did, so we got dressed and headed out.

On the way to the tube station, Harvey saw us and asked where we were off to. "We're going to visit the pet shop in Harrod's to see if we can hold puppies," I said.

"Then we're coming back and spending the rest of the day in Meg's room, because today is a Pajama Day!" Laura said.

Harvey responded, "That's exactly right! It most certainly is! Well you girls have fun!"

So we headed off and finally found Harrod's and truly, it was a madhouse. A MADHOUSE!

We took the escalators to the top floor, where we'd clearly missed signs for the pet shop. When we asked, we were told it was on the second floor. So back down we went, and asked like a thousand people before we actually found it. We had to walk through the Persian rug section to get there. It was insane. It was also packed with rich people who had their children in furry boots and other latest fashions. The whole place made me cringe, really.

But we found the pet shop and realized because of the setup that we probably wouldn't be allowed to hold puppies. Plus, we'd have to wait a half hour in the madness before we'd even know for sure. We looked around a bit, trying to see how long we could stand waiting. I looked around for a gift for Flikka or Loki. I found these cute purple collars that said "Prince" and "Princess" and had embroidered crowns in them. I looked at the tag, and just started laughing out loud.

Guess how much it was for ONE of those collars in this store? THIRTY-THREE POUNDS! That's like $65. Completely insane, and so not worth it. We decided Harrod's sucked and left. Definitely not our kind of place.

When we got back to the hotel, we were happy to be back in my room. We talked and laughed and just hung out in our PJs for a long time. Later, we visited the grocery store, looking for dinner. We wanted something hot, but they didn't have the meat pastries we'd seen the day before. I remembered what Harvey had said our first night in London about where to find good food. I suggested looking for warm food and bringing in back to the hotel room, which Laura said sounded great to her. I led us right down the street, and soon we were in an Asian buffet place. We paid four pounds each, got a carton of food each and returned to my room. The food was amazing! Laura had said I got a gold star for finding the place, and then she granted me another one because the food was actually good. Hooray for me!

We continued drinking after we'd eaten and got pretty tipsy. Laura was able to use her bottle opener teeth to open my newly purchased bottles of cider as well as her vodka. And then we drank and drank and visited the internet cafe, and then we felt ready to call it a night. And damn if we weren't in bed by 10pm! We are some crazy fools! Crazy drunken fools who had an awesome, relaxing day! What could be better than that?
