Life and Big Fish

(( Sunday, January 25, 2004 // 07: 25 PM ))

In just a few weeks, I'll be in court! I can't believe it either. I really should have thought harder before running over those pedestrians. No, no. I kid. It's just jury duty. Wow, jury duty. I've never done that before. I even felt a little scared receiving such official-looking mail, until I realized what it was!

I read the excuses and disqualifications thoroughly, and sadly, none of them apply to me. So hey, I'm going to court. Should be interesting. I'll take a book.

Speaking of books, I recently bought a few. They're all about energy and psychic stuff and stories from beyond the grave. I love that stuff! I was up half the night reading one of them. Okay, and now you all think I'm weird, but what else is new?

Well, I've been making lists all day of all the crap I need to do. Most of it pertains to my car, which I'd love to be in tip-top shape before driving all the way down to Southern California. No, that might not be for a while, but for once, I'd like not to procrastinate. I'm being Pro-Active Car Girl!! So this week will be all about getting estimates for everything. Next week, I'll actually have to get stuff done to my car, and then I'll have to pay for it. Well, at least my car will be happy. Joe's checking account? Not so much. But we'll live.

Joe and I just got back from seeing Big Fish. Wow. Just... wow, that is an amazing and touching movie. It left me feeling a lot different than I thought it would. I could almost start crying again just thinking about it all. Sometimes events in life make you ponder the really important things, like life, death, and love. All kinds of love... romantic, familial, friendship-love... And you realize that no matter how much petty crap and annoying, tiny problems come up in life, a great many of them really don't matter much in the grand scheme of things. And sometimes events in characters' lives can make you ponder those same things. And you're... Well, I... I'm left feeling pretty grateful for what I do have, and realizing that all the money woes, and other stressors I've been worrying over lately aren't nearly as important as the people and dreams in my life.

It's really interesting to hear what people are saying about Big Fish. This is clearly a love/hate movie. Just this morning I heard one radio DJ tell the other that he hated him for making him go see Big Fish. He said it was awful. The one who recommended it stuck by it and said he really enjoyed it. Even die-hard tim Burton fans are torn on this one. Personally, I'm going to go see it. I live Tim Burton and Ewan McGregor and I think it looks great.
