G is for Grilling with Friends

(( Saturday, June 12, 2004 // 11: 41 PM ))

Joe and I went to our friend, Alan's house tonight for a barbeque. Alan and his girlfriend, Jenn, recently bought a house, and this was the first time we've visited. We got there right when the ball tip was done cooking. Of course, there was much joking about the term, "ball tip," but even if the term were somehow literal, that meat was damn good, and I'm not sure it would have deterred any of us.

Much food was grilled and consumed, including the ball tip steaks, burgers, and hot dogs. I ate quite a bit, actually, and was pleasantly full (not stuffed, just feelin' good) by the end of the evening. I also decided to drink a Corona with lime. Believe it or not, I've never had it before. You know how they say beer drinking is an aquired taste? Well, apparently, I have yet to aquire it. It took a long while before the lime had soaked into the beer enough for me to start liking it. Even so, I only drank half the bottle, and stuck to water instead. It's weird, I had no problem drinking beer at JournalCon! I guess it depends on the brand? Anyway. I'm more of a hard cider girl, really.

Joe knows Alan from work, and there were a few other work people there, too. I only knew one of them, Dan, who is a really cool guy. He is a good conversationalist, and just an all around nice person. Also, he cracks me up! Either he's saying something funny or laughing at one of Joe's jokes, and Dan's laughter is damn contagious!

Their friend, also named Alan, was there, and he is a weird dude. A lot of our laughter stemmed from jabs at him, actually. Alan and Jenn's neighbor, Ben, was also there, as well as another guy from work, Mark. Those two were surprisingly funny! At one point, Alan was complaining that Jenn had bought Hunt's ketchup instead of Heinz. He said, "Hunt's is inferior!" And Mark said, in his thick French accent (he's from France), "It makes me shiver just to think of it," which made us all bust up laughing! There were also many, many "your mom" jokes exchanged throughout the evening, and let's face it, those are always good for a laugh.

We also took the tour of Alan and Jenn's new place. The house is crazy! It is beautiful and awesome, but the layout is so different from any other house I've ever been in. When you walk in on the ground floor, there is the garage and the laundry room. Then there are two more levels of the house, with about two rooms on each floor. The kitchen and living room are on the very top floor, up three flights of stairs. Jenn said carrying groceries up there is kind of exhausting. I don't doubt it! It's cool seeing a new house, though, freshly painted, with new carpet, beautiful kitchen tiling, and a shiny silver refrigerator. It's a cool place and they're happy with it, so I'm excited for them.

After a few hours of eating, laughing, and good conversation, we headed out. Weirdly enough, that might be the last time I see Alan, Jenn, or Dan. It's so strange that we're moving. I still haven't quite wrapped my brain around it. Anyway, it was a really fun evening, and I'm glad we went!

After the barbeque, Joe and I went to see Chronicles of Riddick. It was okay. Not great, a little strange, but not really terrible either. It was all right!

And that was our night. It was a lot of fun, and now I'm really tired, so off I go to bed. Good-night!
