New Home

(( Thursday, July 22, 2004 // 11: 15 AM ))

[Written last night]

I was originally planning on telling you how nice it is to have the internet - that it made our little apartment feel more homey than I expected it to. But alas, as I am typing this, there is no internet connection. The cable guy came over earlier today, hooked it all up, and voila - internet! Then this evening, it all went kaput, and we're not sure why. Joe's trying various things to make it work, but so far, no luck.

Never fear, citizens, by the time you read this, I'll be back online. Otherwise, how the hell am I going to post this? Right?

Anyway. You know what's weird? It's weird that a week full of events and interesting happenings can be summed up in one compound sentence. For example: Joe got a job, and we got an apartment. Yes, that's right, things are coming together over here. Joe starts his new gig next week. And our apartment is pretty cute. Of course, when we signed the lease, Chopin's funeral march played in the hallway. I started giggling, and Joe asked, "Is that an omen?"

"I'm sure it's fine," I said, even though I wasn't completely sure.

"It's getting louder," he pointed out.

I laughed even harder.

Of course, now that we've noticed that the water pressure kind of sucks, that our east-facing windows bring in lots of sunshine and therefore lots of HEAT, and that we're having a hell of a time getting connected to the internet, I wonder if the funeral march was an omen afterall? Hmm.

Then again, we can get used to the water pressure, and we bought fans to invite the cool, outside air into our apartment. Now we just need internet connectivity and we will be some very happy campers. Until then, the happiness of campers is not guaranteed. (This offer not valid in Utah.)

The kitties are settling in well. We signed the lease and got the keys Saturday morning. Then we bought a litterbox, set it up, and headed off to get the cats. There were about a million dogs in the desk area, and I said hello to all of them when I went back to get Homer and Patches. "Hi, puppies!!!" What a cool facility!

It was so good to see the cats, and even better to get them home. We knew we weren't moving in quite yet, but we also knew Homer and Patches would enjoy having a lot more room to explore than their kennel cage would allow. They seemed freaked out when we first got them home, meowing, running for the door anytime we left or came back. Actually, we had to leave and come back to the apartment quite a bit that day while running errands, and by the end of the day, the cats seemed convinced that our leaving did not mean we'd never return. They relaxed a little, and by now they seem okay with the idea that this is their home. I think Joe and I are getting there too.

Yesterday, we moved our computers over here, as well as our bed. And last night was our first night sleeping here. I turned to Joe and said, "Oh my god. We live here now!"

It's a funny feeling to have a new home. But it's a good one, too.

Yay!

Sounds like it all is going well!

Congrats on the transitions!

Apparently! This! Morning! I! Like! Exclamation! Points!
