Moving - Not So Bad Now That It's Over

(( Sunday, August 29, 2004 // 02: 32 PM ))

Joe is currently asleep on the couch. The couch! OUR COUCH IS HERE!!

The rest of our stuff is here, too, piled high in our living room. It's a mess, but it's great. It feels good to see our things again. It also feels good to sit in my desk chair again, too.

Ahh...

The moving guys really were very nice. I liked them both a lot. And they seemed to feel just as frustrated by the lack of communication with the office as I had felt. The older guy told me, "You know, I hate when the office don't tell me nothin'. But you're such nice people. You are very nice, and your husband- your husband?"

"Yes, he's my husband."

"..And your husband's so nice that I'll trust y'all. I'll trust you and you can trust me."

"I do."

"Well, all right then!" he said with a smile.

When he came upstairs, he told us what a difficult morning they'd had, too. Apparently, he had to visit five different U-Haul places in order to find a truck to use to deliver our stuff. So they'd really been trying to get going early in the morning, but U-Haul made things a bit difficult for them. (And they didn't start the clock until they got here, so we won't be paying for truck-search time, which is good.)

He also told us he'd been able to drive the large truck to the storage unit. They didn't have to use a shuttle at all up there. Impressive! Saved him some time and us some money. Now that's what I call a win-win situation.

I met the younger guy, too, who was cool. He complimented my Sesame Street shirt! When he brought in the Xbox and TiVo, I said, "Joe'll be happy to see those!" (Joe was asleep at the time, poor guy stayed up all night long.)

The young guy said, "I bet. Did Oprah get you guys hooked on TiVo, too?" Heh. Too funny.

I told him, "No, not Oprah. We just heard good things and love electronics, so we had to try it."

The guys were careful with our stuff and very pleasant and polite. I liked them a lot. Good times.

And now we have our furniture and boxes! All our crap is with us once more. How strange.

Man, am I happy about that couch. And the bed. And... I'm just happy. I guess I was just being pissy about the move earlier because it felt like the situation was in limbo and like things kept getting screwed up. It sure is a lot easier to let those frustrations go when all is said and done and everything turns out okay. Maybe there is a lesson in there somewhere. Or, you know, maybe not.

....

OUR STUFF'S HERE!!!
