Yakking About School

(( Thursday, November 11, 2004 // 01: 19 AM ))

They warned me that the quarter system could be a weird and hard thing to get used to, and you know, I think they were right! The dust is still settling from my midterms, and already I'm planning my Winter session. I enroll in just two weeks!

It looks like the next class I need (Research Design) will be open in the Winter (it currently says "closed" online, which gave all us Pre-Psych students a scare... we need that class!). And I finally unravelled the giant knot that is my required units. I could explain how I got there, but that's boring to everyone except me, so I'll just say this - there's good news and bad news. Bad News: In order to apply to be officially accepted into my major, I'll have to take two requisites (Research Design AND Chemistry) at the same time. Two really hard classes at once! I mean, dude. Chemistry! GAH. Okay, now... Good News: If all goes according to plan, I might only have classes three days a week! And I might just get to take a really kickass anthro class about comparing human and nonhuman primates. A whole class on primates? Obviously, that class was designed specifically for me. Heh.

More school news... I totally thought I might have failed my Rap History midterm, which was freaking me out. But today I found out I got a C! The reason this is good news? I'm taking the class pass/no pass. And I passed! Nice.

In others news, I totally weirded my body out today by drinking coffee. It was one of those sweetened cappuccino drinks from a vending machine at school. I gave up caffeine at the beginning of the year and only started drinking the occasional caffeinated beverage a few months ago. So, I knew I was risking feeling sick by drinking it. But, a few weeks ago I drank a Pepsi in class and it kept me awake. And I was exhausted today, so I thought, hey, if the Pepsi worked, coffee will work even better. WRONG. Because of the sugar (I presume), I completely conked out in class after drinking it, thus succeeding in doing exactly what I was trying to avoid! I hate sleeping in class, because I come out of my dozing state and wonder why I came to class at all (or in the case of Stats, I wake up and wonder, "Wait what is he TALKING about? He was making sense BEFORE I fell asleep!" Luckily that only happened one time!).

I woke up in time to hear the part of lecture involving Vanilla Ice, Eminem and Kid Rock, which I was glad about. Awesome. I really do like that class. It's just the long lectures do me in sometimes. I don't think I've ever had a two hour class with no breaks before! At 9am. Shockingly enough, I am always able to stay awake for the part of class in which there are a lot of questions from the students, and lots of music clips being played. "You better lose yourself in the music, the moment
You own it, you better never let it go"...
Too bad class isn't like that all the time. I love the music we listen to in there. I look forward to when Joe and I move again so that we can unpack all our CDs!

Speaking of moving... The apartment we're in now was only meant to be temporary, so... it's about time to pack up and relocate, again! We just need to find a place first. A place much closer to school and work. No more hour-long commutes. That is the goal. Wish us luck!
