School, Holidailies, and Little Zoo
(( Sunday, December 5, 2004 // 03: 25 AM ))
Only one week left of school! Then two days of finals and the quarter is over. Holy crap! I better start studying.
As for next quarter, I saw an advisor and now, all is well. It turns out there is a much easier Chemistry class being offered in the Spring, so that settles that. My Winter classes are: Psychological Research Methods, Social Psychology, and Geology of L.A. That last one is my elective. Let's hope it doesn't suck! So many classes were closed when I was registering for my third class and tweaking my schedule. So that's what I ended up with. Also, I did in fact get to keep a Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule. Guess who's sleeping all day on Tuesdays and Thursdays?? Actually, I'm going to attempt to study on those days. Heh. We'll see how that goes.
So hey, I got a B on my Stats midterm! Things are looking very good for that class. Just have to finish up understanding ANOVA and Chi Squared before the final. Right now I don't even know what Chi Squared means. A tasty tea, perhaps? Somehow, I don't think that's quite right.
Did you see my fancy new button at the bottom of my sidebar? Yep, I joined Holidailies again this year. That means an entry every day between Dec 7 and Jan 6. It's all Seafoam all the time!! More than you could ever want to know about finals, cats knocking shit over, and crazy wild animal stories. Stay tuned!
Speaking of crazy wild animal stories! ... There was a reindeer at Little Zoo today! Her name is Temoc, and she has very large antlers and fuzzy lips. I am in love. We tried seeing if she wanted to eat an apple, and she acted completely uninterested. We left it in with her just in case. Of course, it was completely gone when we checked in on her later! Since hoofstock like sweet feed and lemur chow is somewhat sweet, we offered some of that to her, too, and it was a total hit! She gobbled it up, her fuzzy fur tickling the palm of my hand the whole time. Awesome stuff!
The reason we were feeding her treats is we were taking pictures with her. It's the perfect Christmas photo op, after all! Temoc was great, and as soon as I get the pictures we took today, I'll post them. As of right now, they're still in Mallory's camera.
We also took photos with the wallabies. The idea was that I'd hold the little one, Roo, and squat down with him next to the larger one, Spring. Well, Roo was like, "Screw this!" and tried to leap out of my arms. I was holding the base of his tail nice and secure though, so I scooped him back up and he kicked my arm (ow!) as he scrambled for two seconds, then settled down completely. It was the craziest thing! I posed with him next to Spring, and they touched noses just as Mallory took the shot. I can't wait to post that one, too! Wallabies are awesome. And very strong. I never thought I'd be able to say I got kicked by a wallaby, but there you have it!
I also got to hold Simon again. My favorite thing about him is that if you baby-talk to him, he will wrap his arms around your neck and lick you. He did that a few times, then rubbed his hands in my hair and ripped my glasses off my face. Heh. Silly monkey. I love him.
Rufio didn't recognize me today. I tried to get him out of his cage to go inside for the evening, and he kept running from me. He licked my ear from his perch, but wouldn't let me hold him until Mallory picked him up and handed him to me. But, he did not rip my nosering out or pee on me, and he did let me hug him and kiss his head, so that worked out nicely!
The kingsnake isn't feeling well, though. He has been striking at his food, but not gripping it (we feed dead mice, by the way). So we opened up his mouth to find it discolored and stinky. We think he has Mouth Rot. We spent a little bit of time very carefully rinsing his mouth out with listerine, making sure he didn't swallow any. Hopefully it'll clear up after a few days of doing that. Poor snake. That's gotta suck.
Okay, time for a funny story. When we were preparing diets for the next few days, and we needed some pigeons. I offered to grab some from the freezer. They were all kind of stuck in there together, so I grabbed one and started pulling it out, turning it a little to make it easier. Well, its head went through the freezer grate above it and got stuck! So all of a sudden this dead pigeon head is staring at me, stuck in the grate and it totally skeeved me out! Then, I didn't want to yank it for fear of snapping its head off, which probably would have been fine, since it was already dead, but jeez! I said, "Sick!" kind of softly, or so I thought, until Mallory called to me, "Are you okay?" I told her what happened as I turned it and got it out without breaking it, and we laughed about how weird and morbid it was. [crickets chirping] Okay, fine, I guess you had to be there.
I had an amazing day. Mallory is awesome, and so is Little Zoo. I always leave there feeling high on life, exhilerated and giddy, and incredibly lucky. I'm looking forward to next Saturday already (when Kirsten will be there, too!). It's going to be great!
