Relaxin' With Ruby
(( Thursday, November 17, 2005 // 11: 02 PM ))
While Wyatt went to teach his classes today, Alyssa, Ruby and I went downtown to walk around. Then we walked through the residential areas of this small city, seeing the last of the Fall leaves clinging tentatively to the branches. The air was crisp and clear, leaving all of us looking rosy-cheeked. We even saw Ithaca's first fire bell! I took a picture with it, of course.
Then I got to strap the baby bjorn on myself and walk around with sweet little Ruby against my chest. She kept me nice and warm! She even stayed asleep when we transferred her from Alyssa to me. She could not have looked cuter or more cozy in her pink fleece bear outfit. There are simply no words for that level of cuteness.
Later, she was feeling fussy and upset again. I guess if babies cry more than three hours a day, they're considered colicky, which is what poor Ruby is going through. So I held her and sang to her and walked around with her. She actually fell asleep in my arms before dinner! I put her in her crib, but just a few minutes later, she woke up crying. Wyatt put her in the baby bjorn where she fell asleep again. She managed to sleep in the crib just long enough for us to eat dinner. Then she slept in the bjorn again while we watched t.v. Man is she comfortable in that thing! It's so awesome.
It's funny, because before I got here, I wondered, how do people stay home with newborns all day? Doesn't that get boring? And I've discovered that it's weird just how entertaining watching an infant respond to the world around them really is. We just stood by her crib this morning, watching her watch her mobile go around. Every time the dragonfly came by, she oohed and smiled so wide (I like dragonflies, too, Ruby! We already have something to talk about when you're older!).
Just watching her is an intriguing, heart-meltingly beautiful thing. I love this little girl! I'm sure tomorrow will be just as much fun!
