Help Yourself... Please!

(( Monday, December 12, 2005 // 11: 20 PM ))

You know how in offices, people always bring yummy goodies that are irresistable? Chocolate, fudge, and M&Ms tempt all who walk by the trays and dishes of treats. Sometimes there's even zucchini bread, or cupcakes, and everyone jokes about trying not to gain weight during the holidays in between sneaking bites of this or that. Some people have to bring their own healthy snacks to avoid all the delicious goodness their evil co-workers lay down before them!

Well, I am doing my part to save my fellow man from having a sugar-induced guilty conscience. Not bringing any goodies to work, then, Meg, you ask? Or bringing your co-workers some veggies? Ho ho no, my friends. Instead, I just bring to the office all the food that everyone hates! Ha!

It wasn't deliberate, actually. It just turned out that way. First, it was the candy corn flavored Jones soda. I brought it because I thought it was a fun Halloween treat that people might like to sample. Even if just to take a sip and say, "Dude, that is gross!" and then toss it in the garbage (for the record, my own personal opinion of the soda is that it wasn't that bad, but wasn't quite good, either.). But my co-workers, they are not adventurous people. Today, I saw a can of the Halloween soda being used as a paper weight. The other 6 cans were nowhere to be seen. These are mini-cans, too, that we're talking about; it's not like they'd be committing to a full 12 ounces! Anyway, I asked one girl, "Oh, so did they all get tossed?"

"No, they're in the fridge," she said.

"Where they will stay for a year," I finished, but I was either not heard or ignored. No one wants to tell me my soda sucks.

And today, I brought them leftover JellyBelly jellybeans that I got for the football party game the other day (the one that turned into a sad, sad day for UCLA). I also brought in chocolate, one flavor that was too sweet for me (white chocolate), and one that was too coffee flavored for me (dark chocolate espresso). Both had been gifts that didn't quite work out. I thought bringing them to work was better than wastefully throwing them away, right? But, no. My co-workers didn't even touch it! I think they're afraid of the gifts I bring. I may have to bring in some knowingly delicious cookies to regain their trust! Instead of all the experimental food. "Hmm, I am not into this... but will the co-workers like it?"

Like I said, though, the good thing about working with someone like me is that I bring snacks that are apparently scary enough to save your waistline during the holiday season. You're welcome!

Hi Meg!

I've been reading since JC but hated the idea of signing up for yet another account, yet also hated not being able to comment. So here I am.

I'm glad you signed up for the Holidailies, your writing is thoughtful and the peeks into your life quite exotic. I'm very much looking forward to your daily updates for the rest of the month! ~LA
