Christmas 2005
(( Sunday, December 25, 2005 // 01: 47 AM ))
Merry Christmas! It's hard to believe the day is already here, actually. Joe and I are each on our respective computers, as is our typical evening routine. And we're listening to Christmas music streaming over the internet. Good times!
This year, it's just the two of us for Christmas, and we're just hanging out at home, mostly. For Christmas Eve, we slept in until 3pm. Yes, that's right, three in the afternoon, baby! That's what happens when you stay up until 5am if you are me, and 10am if you are Joe. We haven't stayed up all night together like that in forever, and it was pretty fun!
As a kid, there were always these Christmas traditions that we had. And now, as an adult, Joe's and my only tradition seems to be that we have no traditions. We never do anything exactly the same. And in a way, it's nice. It takes the pressure off, because there's no preset formula for the way things "should" be, which means no way things can go wrong. They just... go. And it works out great!
This year, we did the presents thing super early. Joe got me a Nintendo DS! It's red and super awesome, and he bought me some fun games for it, too. I'm really diggin' it. And I was incredibly late with gifts for everyone this year, including Joe's. So I'll be getting his to him soon, but not Christmas morning. Luckily, he's the one who's not hung up on opening something Christmas Day, so... whew!
This evening, we watched A Christmas Story together on DVD. It was awesome to snuggle up together and laugh. "So help me God, yellow eyes!"
And tomorrow will be a day of movies and Disneyland. Most of all, I'm just happy we're together. Part of me wishes I could have set up something bigger. Like a big party, a home filled with family and friends and the smell of traditional holiday foods. And part of me wishes it was cold outside, too. But this year, a big hulabaloo was not in the cards (neither was cold weather, actually). And that's okay, because everything is nice, just the same. We're just enjoying our time together, and spending these days however we please, which is relaxing and fun.
I hope you're all having your own special customized holiday, too, celebrating in whatever way works best for you.
Merry Christmas, Happy Yule, and Happy Holidays! Have a beautiful day!
